Mysuru: In a rare incident that took place at a religious event held in Karnataka, three people suffered injuries after a minor explosion caused by gas-filled balloons. The gas balloons caught fire during the havan organised by the Suttur Mutt in Mysuru earlier in the day. According to reports, Suttur Mutt's head saint Shivratri Deshikendra Swami was inaugurating a wrestling tournament when the unexpected explosion took place that left three people to suffer injuries. The hawan ritual was being performed during an ongoing six-day annual Suttur Fair which began on February 1.

The shocking footage of the explosion shows the saints and supporters of the Mutt rushing towards the head seer as the balloons above him and the other guests catch fire. The saints and supporters suffered minor burns during the explosion and were rushed to the nearby hospital.

An eye-witness told news agency PTI that prior to releasing the balloons, a torch was brought by some sportsmen from Mysuru to the wrestling arena and the flames came in contact with the balloons which burst.

As soon as the video was shared by news agency ANI on Twitter, it went viral. While some users of the micro-blogging platform were shocked at the incident, some had their humorous take to it. Here are some bone tickling tweets for you:

FACT: Helium-filled gas balloons do not catch fire and are not flammable. It is the hydrogen-filled balloons that catch fire. If you try to light up the helium-filled balloon, it will blast immediately but if you try to light up hydrogen-filled balloon there will be an explosion, exactly like what happened at the Suttur Mutt.
