New Delhi: On the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day, a drone show by 1,000 indigenously developed drones was organised for the Beating the Retreat ceremony for the first time during a Republic Day parade.

Here’s a glimpse of the drone formation at Vijay Chowk, Delhi on Wednesday.

As a mark of celebration of the Republic Day, the North Block, South Block and the Rashtrapati Bhavan were decorated with different colourful lights.

The four-day long Republic Day celebrations culminate with the Beating the Retreat ceremony which marks the return of the Army to the barracks.

Earlier, the Defence Ministry had included the patriotic song 'Aey Mere Watan ke Logo' in the Beating the Retreat ceremony in a bid to make the Republic Day event more Indian.

The hymn ‘Abide With Me’ had been dropped from the function as per the details of the ceremony shared by the officials of the Defence Ministry.

While celebrating the Republic Day, the Beating the Retreat ceremony was held by the Indian jawans and their Pakistan Rangers counterparts at the Attari-Wagah border in Punjab with a limited number of attendees due to the ongoing Covid pandemic.

The ceremony is all about the zeal and patriotism of the people of India and it has always been said that the Attari-Wagah border is a must-visit place for the people to celebrate.
