New Delhi: On the auspicious occasion of Govardhan Puja in the city of Durg, Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel was seen getting whipped as a part of a ceremonial ritual. In this regard, news agency ANI shared a video of Chhattisgarh CM getting whipped on its official Twitter handle.


ANI on its official Twitter handle writes, "Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel getting whipped as part of a ritual on the occasion of Govardhan Puja in Durg."






In the video, Chhattisgarh CM in his traditional attire and turban is being whipped on his forearm by an enthusiast man. A hoard of people has gathered around the CM to witness the whipping session. In the background, music along with beating drums can be heard. After the whipping session, CM bows down in namaskara, hugs the man, and smiles.


A day after Diwali, Govardhan pooja is observed to mark the lifting of the Govardhan Prabhat by Lord Krishna in order to save the people of  Braj from the wrath of egotistical Lord Indra.


Wishing the people on the occasion of Govardhan pooja, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, "Best wishes for 'Govardhan Puja' to all. Jai Shri Krishna!"






Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya also extended his wishes on the occasion of Govardhan pooja. "Best wishes to all the countrymen on Govardhan Pooja, a symbol of nature, environment and promotion of livestock. I pray to Lord Krishna to remove the sufferings of all and for the welfare of all," he tweeted.
