During the presentation of Budget in Mumbai, BMC Joint Municipal Commissioner Ramesh Pawar who was about to read and table the civic body's annual education budget - accidentally took a mouthful of sanitiser from a bottle near him, instead of water.


The video is going viral with various reactions pouring in. 



As he consumes the hand sanitiser, people in the background seem to have noticed the mistake and promptly appear to help him.


Clarifying the incident, BMC Jt Commissioner Ramesh Pawar said: "I thought that I should drink water before starting my speech so I lifted the bottle and drank. Bottles of water and sanitiser kept there, were similar. So it happened. As soon as I drank it, I realised the mistake and didn't gulp it all the way down".

However, in a serious instance, 12 minor kids were administered oral drops of hand sanitizer on Sunday instead of the polio vaccine dose in a government primary health centre in Yavatmal district. All the children were aged between 1-5. They were then discharged from the hospital after three days of treatment. Following this, the government is reported to have suspended at least three nurses and other officials for the negligence of duty.
