New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday tried her hands at playing a traditional drum during an event in poll-bound Meghalaya. The Trinamool Congress chief also danced with tribal artists at the event.

In a video shared by the news agency ANI, Banerjee was seen participating in the event at Mendipathar in Meghalaya's Garo Hills district.

Banerjee today attended a large public rally in Mendipathar, North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya to kick off her party's election campaign for next month's assembly elections in the northeastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura.

This is Mamata’s first visit to the Garo Hills and second visit to Meghalaya to campaign for the TMC ahead of the Assembly elections.

In her speech today, Bengal CM hit out at the BJP, dubbing the saffron party as "double-faced", which says something at the time of elections and does something else after polls.

"BJP is double-faced, it says something during elections and does something else after that. The BJP government at the Centre only gives money to states ruled by the saffron party," she said.

Asserting that Trinamool Congress is the only party that can provide better governance in the northeastern state, Banerjee said, "TMC is the only party that can provide better governance, as it fulfils the dreams of the youth, women, students and farmers. We want a government for the people, by the people and of the people in Meghalaya."

Meanwhile, the Election Commission today announced the poll schedule for the election to the 60-member Tripura Assembly. The North Eastern state would go to polls on February 16 while the result will be counted on March 2, announced Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in a press conference.
