Vishwakarma Puja 2018: Vishwakarma Puja marks the birth anniversary of Hindu God Vishwakarma, the divine architect. The day is also known as Vishwakarma Day or Vishwakarma Jayanti. This year, Vishwakarma Day had fallen on September 17. Known as the ‘God of Vastu Shastra’, Lord Vishwakarma is believed to built palaces, weapons, and buildings for the gods. He is also known as the ‘First Engineer’, the ‘Engineer of the Gods’ and the ‘God of Machines’. The legends say that it was him, who built the holy city of Dwarka. The festival is celebrated primarily in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar, Tripura, and Odisha.

Vishwakarma Day is mostly celebrated with complete enthusiasm in offices, workshops, and factories in the industrial areas. On this day, architects, carpenters, engineers artists, mechanics, and factory workers take a break from work to worship and clean the machines and tools in factories and offices. They worship the Vishwakarma idol and his ‘vahan’ (vehicle), the elephant. Several workplaces declare their annual bonus on this day as well.
