New Delhi: A video has surfaced on social media after the death of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, purportedly showing his body wrapped in a 'Pakistan flag'. An FIR has been registered against some relatives of Geelani under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Preventions Act (UAPA), media reports said.
Geelani died on September 1, and the video is said to be from that night. It was shot before the Jammu & Kashmir Police took hold of the body, reports said.
The 92-year old pro-Pakistan Hurriyat hardliner leader's body was buried at a graveyard near Hyderpora, neart his residence, on Thursday.
Geelani's family was reportedly raising "anti-national" slogans and indulging in "anti-national" activities, according to the police.
“An FIR was registered against the family, relatives and some miscreants who created unlawful activities on September 1-2 night after the death of Geelani in his house,” a police officer told The Hindu. The police said they did not expect such behaviour from the relatives as "the police was in regular touch with the family and Geelani Sahab", said Dilbagh Singh, the Director-General of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Naseem Geelani, son of SA Geelani, however, refuted the claims made by the police. "We wanted burial in the morning but the police refused. They broke open doors and misbehaved with women. We couldn't attend last rights after they took the body forcibly," he told NDTV.
The video that is doing the rounds on social media purportedly shows women surrounding Geelan's body that is wrapped in what appears to be a 'Pakistani flag'. There is sloganeering heard too. Take a look at the video:
The police had earlier said there was an assessment of large gatherings after the leader's death, and hence they did not allow any congregational prayers on Friday. Internet services in Kashmir remain shut but the broadband services have been activated. The video surfaced after that.
