New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh is surrounded by a fresh controversy for attending an event of Zakir Naik in 2012.

During the event, Digvijaya was seen heavily praising the controversial Islamic preacher for sending out message of peace.

"I am grateful to Zakir Naik. Haven't ever got an opportunity to address such a huge audience. I am happy to see him spread the message of peace in the world," Singh had then said.

Admitting to ABP News about attending the event, Singh said that:” Yes, I did attend the event where I spoke against communal violence and advocated the need of peace in the country, If Naik has said something wrong then the government should launch a probe.”

Dr. Zakir Naik is in the midst of a controversy after his 'hate speech' is reported to have inspired one of the five Bangladeshi militants involved in the Dhaka carnage.

Office bearers of his organization Islamic Research Foundation in Mumbai’s Dongri are being questioned by a team of the Mumbai Police.

Naik is reportedly in Saudi Arabia for a religious pilgrimage and would return to India on July 11. He will be addressing a press conference the next day to respond to allegations against him for which he has hired a Mumbai based PR agency.
