Saidapet(Chennai): An elderly autorickshaw driver was pushed and hit by BJP leader V Kalidass when he tried to ask a question regarding fuel price to Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday.

In a video shared by new agency ANI, BJP leader V Kalidass can be seen pushing and hitting an autorickshaw driver, while the party chief is listening to a question raised by a media persons.

The video also shows an elderly man autorickshaw driver appears behind Tamil Nadu BJP Chief and asks her about the rising cost of fuel. To this, a BJP supporter, who is standing next to Tamilisai Soundararajan, elbows the man out of the way.

The man is then forced backwards and removed from the scene. The prices of petrol in Tamil Nadu are Rs 85.15 per liter, one of the highest in the country.

With the opposition demanding that the government slash fuel prices, the BJP Wednesday said "knee-jerk reactions" will not help and may end up harming the economy by worsening the fiscal deficit and pushing up inflation.

Union minister Piyush Goyal put up a strong defence of the government amid the opposition's attack on it over spiralling fuel prices, saying it is working with a holistic view of the economy and has full confidence that people will support and respect the decisions taken in the national interest.
