New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari and his son Rohit Shekhar have, on Wednesday, joined BJP in the presence of party President Amit Shah. 


N D Tiwari now ex-Congress leader was thrice Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and once Chief Minister of Uttarakhand (2002–2007).

In 1986–1987, N D Tiwari served in Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet as Minister for External Affairs. From 2007 until 2009, he was serving as Governor of Andhra Pradesh, when he was forced to resign following a sex scandal.

He is 91-year-old.

Tiwari has been, reportedly, seeking a ticket for son Rohit Shekhar from Kumaon region of Uttarakhand and the BJP has reportedly agreed to his demand.

In 2013, Rohit Shekhar had filed a paternity suit claiming that the Congress leader and 67-year-old Ujjwala Sharma were his biological parents.

N D Tiwari initially refusing to undergo any DNA tests. But finally agreed and the test results declared that Rohit Shekhar  was his biological son.

In 2014, the Delhi HC passed an order declaring Rohit Shekhar as the biological son of N D Tiwari.
