Confirming that 11 bodies have so far been recovered a day after a glacier burst in Chamoli district and led to massive flooding in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Monday said the priority now is to save lives and rehabilitate the displaced people. He said the economic loss due to the disaster will be ascertained in due course of time.
The Chief Minister said the state government is providing ration kits to those displaced from their homes. Rawat pointed out that a comprehensive analysis is being undertaken to find out the reasons for the incident and build plans to avert future tragedy.
"Economic loss to be ascertained in due course, the priority now is to save lives and rehabilitate displaced people," PTI quoted Rawat as saying.
“The preliminary estimates show around 200 people missing while the bodies of around 11 people have been found,” he added.
Rawat further said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in constant touch with the state government. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in constant touch with us since the tragedy struck and has assured all possible help for Uttarakhand,” he said.
The Chief Minister informed that the experts are ascertaining the cause of Chamoli tragedy. “The breaking of glacier seems to have caused the Chamoli tragedy. The experts from DRDO, ISRO and other agencies are being roped in,” he added.

Meanwhile, the rescue and relief operations are in full progress in Chamoli district. The glacier burst on Sunday triggered massive flooding of Dhauliganga river near Rishiganga Power Project at Raini village in Tapovan area of the district.
