New Delhi: A woman attempted self-immolation outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow on Friday.
The woman, who tried to set herself on fire, was stopped by the policemen on duty outside the saffron party's office.
The woman, who hails from Gosainganj, alleged that her son has forcibly been sent to jail by the local police.
“My son is absolutely innocent but the police have forcibly sent him to jail,” she said explaining the reason for her taking such an extreme step.
This matter is being investigated.

A similar incident had taken place earlier in July 2020 as a 50-year-old woman, who had attempted self-immolation with her daughter outside the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s office at Lok Bhavan in protest against alleged police apathy, died at a hospital.
The woman identified as Safia, a resident of Jamo area in the state’s Amethi district, breathed her last after battling for life for four days, PTI reported.
Her daughter was, however, stated to be out of danger.
The development came as the two were upset with the local police for not acting against some people, who had assaulted them following a dispute over a piece of land.
They again assaulted a day before they attempted self-immolation. This came despite the police lodging a complaint after intervention of the senior officials.
The incident outside the BJP office also brought back memories of the Unnao gang-rape survivor.
Earlier in 2018, the Unnao gang-rape survivor attempted suicide outside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence demanding justice.
