A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped and abused in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida, and police said on Friday that they had apprehended the culprits following a gun fight, news agency PTI reported. The child was found on Thursday evening in a field outside Rabupura town after a resident heard her screams, and the incident was reported to the local police station.
The minor was sent for medical examination and treatment, and her family filed a complaint, prompting police to file a FIR against a known person under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping), and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"Swiftly working out the case, the local police nabbed accused Rahul Gautam and took him in custody. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime," Additional DCP Greater Noida Ashok Kumar Sharma was quoted as saying by PTI in its report.
"Later, the accused was taken by a police team on a search to recover clothes from the incident spot. He, however, snatched the pistol of a police official and tried to escape," the officer said.
The police squad replied in self-defense, and the accused was shot in the leg, injuring him before being arrested again, according to Sharma.
According to the officer, the accused was subsequently transferred to a hospital for treatment, and additional judicial actions in the matter were conducted.
The rape of a minor on Thursday sparked outrage among numerous people, including women, who gathered at the Rabupura police station and demanded stern punishment against the perpetrator.
Earlier this month, an FIR has been filed against an Indian hockey player in Bengaluru for allegedly raping a woman several times under the guise of marriage. The lady, now 21, claimed that hockey player Varun Kumar raped her several times over the last five years under the guise of marriage.
She was 17 when she met Varun Kumar on Instagram in 2019, while he was training at the Sports Authority of India.
