Five members of a family, including three children, were killed when a piece of their house's roof fell on Saturday morning, according to authorities, news agency PTI reported. According to them, the incident occurred at Anand Nagar railway colony, which is part of the Alambagh police station area. Satish Chandra (40), and his family members were fast sleeping when the top of their house partially collapsed, according to Station House Officer (SHO) Shiv Shankar Mahadevan.
Around 8 a.m., sanitation employees contacted police about the incident, and police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel arrived on the scene, he added.
"The roof of a house collapsed in the Old Railway Colony of Anand Nagar area. Five members of the family were rescued from the debris and taken to the hospital where doctors declared them dead," DCP East Hridesh Kumar said.
Speaking about the incident, Joint CP Law & Order Upendra Kumar Agrawal stated: "This is a railway colony...We got the information that the roof of a house collapsed. Police, NDRF, and SDRF teams were immediately present on the spot...Railway officers told us that this was an abandoned railway colony, and notices were also given to vacate the house...The status of the houses connected to the damaged house will be updated by the railway. We got the information on the death of the five people of the family..."
According to Shiv Shankar Mahadevan, the tragedy killed Chandra, his wife Sarojini Devi (35) and their children Harshit (13), Harshita (10) and Ansh (5).
