New Delhi: With Uttar Pradesh elections around the corner, the Samajwadi Party on Thursday gave away eight out of ten, Amethi and RaeBareli seats to Congress to contest for the forthcoming polls.


The announcement came more than a week after the two parties formally announced their alliance.

Akhilesh-Rahul announced their tie-up in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Uttar Pradesh polls 2017 at a joint press conference in Lucknow. The two parties had earlier come to down to a settlement of 105 seats. After this decision, Samajwadi Party gave away 8 out of 10 Raebareli seats to Congress.

Now, the only two seats from where Samajwadi Party would contest are Amethi assembly seat and Dalmau seat.

As per sources, Rahul indicated that he wants the Amethi and Raebareli seats from Akhilesh during the press conference by writing so on a piece of paper.

The two leaders have jointly started their campaigning for the upcoming elections via road shows in Lucknow and they have already lined up around fourteen rallies together.
