New Delhi: Unidentified assailants on Wednesday opened fire inside Varanasi’s JHV Mall in the Cantonment police station limits, in which two people have been killed and two others have been injured.  A ruckus was created inside the mall when the unidentified men started firing in an apparel brand's showroom, injuring four workers of the store.

The matter is said to have started with a brawl between the assailants and the store employees over discount in price during a transaction, which later took the form of an aggressive fight resulting in the shooting.

On being notified, police vehicle immediately reached the spot and rushed the injured people to a nearby private hospital where the doctor declared two of them to be dead. The other two who remained in a critical condition have been rushed to the Trauma Centre.

Inspector General of Varanasi range Vijay Singh Meena confirmed that two people have been killed in the firing.

“We have taken possession of the CCTV footage of the mall and one person has been identified in the matter and is said to be associated with a college of the city. Two teams have been sent to nab him”, he said.

He informed that the eye-witnesses have given an account of what happened inside the mall, according to which three people entered the shop and got into an argument with a salesman. As the fight aggravated the salesman grabbed one of the men which prompted the other accomplice of the man to shoot at him.

Police is also looking into how the men equipped with guns could enter inside the mall.
