Ayodhya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana from Uttar Pradesh today via video conferencing.


Beneficiaries thanked the Prime Minister for extending a helping hand during the unprecedented Covid times and said that they are happy with the benefits provided under the programme.

The five beneficiaries who interacted with PM Modi are four women labourers and a male small-time general merchant. Two of them are from eastern UP, one from Bundelkhand, and one from western UP.


While interacting with beneficiaries PM Modi also urged them to encourage more people to get vaccinated against COVID19 and not to believe in rumours.


Slamming the opposition parties for not allowing to conduct parliamentary proceedings, PM Modi said, "No matter how much some people (Opposition) try to disrupt Parliament proceedings and stall the development of the country, our country cannot become hostage to such selfishness and politics."


Prime Minister also hailed the Olympic champions and said, "New India is gaining global recognition not through ranks, but by winning medals. It has been proved that one's progress is decided by hard work, not family. Indian youth is moving forward, it's progressing."


Marking the second anniversary of article 370 aborgation in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi said, "August 5 will be remembered in history. Two years ago on this day, Article 370 was abrogated in Jammu and Kashmir. On this day last year, the first step was taken towards the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Today, construction of a grand Ram Temple is underway."


Foodgrains will be distributed to the poor from fair price shops across all the 75 districts of the state as part of the Anna Mahotsav by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, his ministers, and BJP leaders.


Earlier this week PM Modi also interacted with PMGKAY beneficiaries of Gujarat and said,"Since Independence, almost every govt said to provide cheap food to the poor. The reach of cheap ration schemes & budget increased during these yrs. But the effect remained limited. Food storage kept increasing but starvation & malnutrition didn't decrease in that ratio".



"Today, in addition to the quota of wheat at Rs 2/kg and rice at Rs 3/kg, 5 kg of wheat and rice is being given free to every beneficiary. This scheme is going to last till Diwali", said PM Modi.


PMGKAY is a food security welfare scheme to provide assistance and help mitigate the economic impact of Covid-19, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. Under the scheme, five kilograms per person additional food grain is given to all beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act.


Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year to ameliorate the hardships being faced by the poor population of the country due to economic disruption caused by Corona virus.
