The health department in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia has sought clarification from officials after a video of an ambulance driver administering an injection to a patient in a district hospital emergency ward came forward, as reported by the news agency PTI.


Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the hospital, Dr. Diwakar Singh said that the video surfaced on the internet on Thursday. In the video, he said the ambulance driver is seen administering an injection to a patient in the emergency medical room of the district hospital.


According to Singh, the incident took place on Wednesday night. Taking cognizance of the matter, action against the medical officer-in-charge of the emergency medical room, the doctor, and other medical personnel posted there has been initiated by serving notices seeking their immediate clarification, the CMS said, as reported by PTI. Singh said that action will be taken against all those found guilty in this matter.


In another incident, a 20-year-old deaf and mute Dalit woman was allegedly raped by four to five men in Rajasthan's Barmer district, police said on Friday. According to the news agency PTI, the incident happened on Thursday evening in the area under Dhorimanna police station limits when the woman had gone to graze goats, said the complaint filed by the family members.


The accused men, who were in a car, stopped the woman and allegedly raped her, it said. A case has been registered against unidentified men under sections of the Indian Penal Code, SHO (Dhorimanna) Sukhram Vishnoi said. The medical examination of the victim will be done on Friday, he said. CCTV footage is being scanned to trace the accused, he said, adding no arrest has been made so far.


Last week, a 19-year-old model was allegedly gang-raped in a car in Kerala's Kochi late on Thursday night. Three men and a woman were held in custody by Ernakulam Police. The victim had visited a pub near Cochin Shipyard and she was drunk. The accused offered to drop her home and she was allegedly gang-raped on the way.


The victim is undergoing treatment at Kalamassery Medical College. "Medical evidence suggests that she was injured. After committing the crime, the men dropped the victim at Kakkanad," a senior police official told PTI.


The matter came to the fore when it was reported to the police by a private hospital, where the victim was admitted by her roommate. "There are 4 accused in this case, we have arrested 3 men & 1 woman and have booked the u/s 370 of IPC. The accused woman is friends with the victim who helped other accused. We're awaiting medical reports to know if any drugs were given to the victim," CH Nagaraju, CP, Kochi City told ANI.
