Union minister of state Shripad Naik has met with an accident near Ankola in Uttara Kannada dist of Karnataka. He was travelling from Yellapura to Gokak in Karnataka. There were four people in the car including his wife. The driver lost control. All injured have been rushed to Ankola government hospital after which they have shifted to Panaji hospital. His wife was said to be in critical condition succumbed to the injuries.


The minister's personal secretary Deepak has also passed away in the accident.

Shripad Naik is the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy and Minister of State for Defence.



Police have registered a case in this matter.





Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure proper arrangements for the treatment of Union Minister Shripad Naik, at Goa.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and asked him to provide the best treatment, and if the need arises, Singh asked to fly Union Minister Shripad Naik to Delhi. The Goa CM has reached the hospital.


Condolences poured in hearing about the mishap:

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal expressed grief about the incident. Kejriwal said, "Deeply saddened to hear the news of Vijaya Naik ji's death in an accident. Praying for the quick recovery of Hon'ble Union Minister Shripad Naik ji, hope God gives him & his family the strength to overcome this loss."


MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh took to Twitter and expressed grief, " Extremely shocked and saddened to learn about the incident. Shripad Naik ji is not only a colleague in the union ministry but much more than that, a very close friend of many years. Wishing the best for him. And praying for him."



Reacting to the reports of death of Shripad Naik's wife in the accident, Congress MLA RV Deshpande said, Shocked to hear Hon Union Minister @shripadynaik has met with an accident near Ankola and his wife who was travelling with him has tragically died. My deepest condolences to their family and friends. Praying for speedy recovery of Shripadji and hope he will be out of danger soon
