New Delhi: Shaista Parveen, wife of slain mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, has been declared a fugitive by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday. She is an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case and carries a reward of Rs 50000 rupees on her.
Police teams on Monday reached Atiq’s demolished ancestral house in Chakia and formally declared Parveen absconding amidst the beating of drums. They also attached a copy of the notice under section 82 of CrPC at Atiq’s ancestral house.
Notably, Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were shot dead on February 24 outside his home in Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj area.
According to reports, Parveen played a significant role in orchestrating the murder and providing instructions to the killers, which included her son Asad Ahmed, who was killed in an encounter on April 13, 2023.
Earlier in May, Prayagraj police had issued lookout notices against Parveen, and Atiq's close aides, Guddu Muslim and Sabir.
Since the police were not able to trace Parveen and the other two, the officials thought that in such a situation they may run out of the country.
This, in turn, prompted authorities to issue lookout notices against all three of them. And on the basis of this, a lookout notice was issued against them to prevent them from leaving the country.
The notice period will be for 1 year.
Based on a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal, a case was registered on February 25 against Atiq Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, wife Parveen, two sons, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine others.
On March 28, an MP/MLA court held Atiq Ahmad and two others guilty in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
On April 15, Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college here for a checkup.
