New Delhi: Tension prevails in Rajasthan and the country is in shock after the horrendous incident of a tailor's murder for an alleged social media post. The police have arrested the culprits who also posted a video claiming they have beheaded the tailor Kanhaiya Lal. While people are demanding maximum punishment for the murderers, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Dhan Mandi police station in Udaipur was on Tuesday suspended for negligence following the murder of the tailor.


It is alleged that the ASI did not pay heed to the concern raised by Kanhaiya Lal regarding the threat calls that he was receiving,


Steps have been taken by the administration to maintain law and order in Udaipur, here are some latest developments after the incident:



  • After the horrific murder of a tailor in Udaipur sparked outrage in the entire state, the Rajasthan government on Tuesday announced the imposition of section 144 of CrPC in all the districts for the next month.

  • Udaipur Divisional Commissioner Rajendra Bhatt said that a financial compensation of Rs 31 lakhs will be given to the kin of Kanhaiya Lal.

  • The state government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT includes the Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Special Operation Group Ashok Kumar Rathore, Inspector General of Police (IG), Anti Terror Squad (ATS), Prafulla Kumar, and a Superintendant of Police (SP) rank officer and an Additional SP rank officer.

  • "It is not an ordinary incident, we will seriously decipher the conspiracy & links to this killing. I'm going for a meeting & will let you know the outcome", Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot

  • Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind on Tuesday condemned the Udaipur killing incident and called it against Islam and the law of the land. "Maulana Halceemuddin Qasmi, General Secretary of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, has condemned the incident of brutal killing in Udaipur apparently on the pretext of the insult to the Prophet (PBUH) and called it against the law of land and against the religion of Islam," reads the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind statement.

  • The Union Home Ministry dispatched a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to Udaipur on Tuesday. 

  • Government sources told ANI that the NIA team is likely to file a case under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act after visiting the crime spot.


  • Kanhaiya Lal, the tailor, was recently arrested by the local police over a post on social media. On June 15, while he was on bail, he told police that he was receiving threat calls. The local SHO summoned both sides to the police station and settled the matter, an official said. After the murder, police have suspended an assistant sub inspector for negligence at that time.



  • According to ABP News sources, BJP declared a Bandh in Udaipur after the horrific incident and criticised the ruling government for not being able to maintain the law and order.

  • Two men with a cleaver killed Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur city’s Dhan Mandi area and posted videos online that said they are avenging an insult to Islam, triggering stray cases of violence in the Rajasthan city, a part of which was placed under curfew.
