The duo, accused in the alleged murder of the Kanpur businessman during a hotel raid in Gorakhpur, will be handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.

The two police officers, as per sources, were planning to surrender in court after the state government announced a reward of Rs one lakh each on their heads, IANS reported.

The businessman had gone to Gorakhpur with his two friends on the night of September 27 and was staying at a local hotel when a police team raided their room.

The businessmen, as per reports, demanded to know why they were being questioned following which the six policemen in the team beat him up so badly that he died.

A video clip from the hotel's CCTV footage shows the cops dragging the businessman's seemingly lifeless body into the lift.

According to the police, they had information on “suspicious” men living at the hotel and they had entered the hotel room where Gupta was staying with his two friends to check their identities.

The Gorakhpur police had, however, later claimed that Gupta was injured when he fell down while trying to flee.
