Kerala police arrested two persons in connection with the theft at Union Minister Suresh Gopi's residence in Eravipuram of Kerala. The police said that the suspects aged 18 and 20 were arrested after an investigation was launched into the missing items at the storage shed near the Minister's residence.
The two suspects, identified as Arun (18) and Shimnas (20), reportedly stole pipes and old containers from the shed, as per a report on India Today. The theft allegedly took place when Gopi's family members were absent in the premises. However, the incident came to light after a relative of MoS found the the shed’s grill gate broken and reported it to the police on Tuesday.
Based on CCTV footage from the area, the local police apprehended the suspects within hours of launching the investigation. The Eravipuram police confirmed that both individuals are locals and have a history of thefts, reported Times of India.
Authorities revealed that the accused are repeat offenders and are suspected of targeting the property multiple times in the past. The police are conducting a detailed investigation to determine the full extent of the thefts and to recover the stolen items.
Suresh Gopi is the first MP for BJP from Kerala. Currently, he serves as the Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum and Natural Gas. Actor-cum-politician Suresh Gopi previously served as a member of Rajya Sabha. He also contested 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 assembly elections from Thrissur in BJP ticket but failed to create a mark. However, he made history in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections by becoming the first BJP MP of the state which is predominantly dominated by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by Left parties and United Democratic Front (UDF) led by the Congress.
