New Delhi: The Twitter handle of the Ministry of Jal Shakti was hacked on Thursday. Suspicious tweets were detected on the account at around 7.30 am today. The ministry swung into action as soon as the matter came to notice.

After this, all necessary steps have been taken and the Twitter handle is now recovered. Screenshots show multiple tweets with bot accounts tagged. Reportedly, more than 80 tweets were made on the ministry's account.

The suspicious tweets have been deleted. A probe has also been initiated and an official statement regarding the same is awaited.

In January this year, the Twitter account of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was briefly compromised. The hackers changed the name of the account to ‘Elon Musk’ and put out tweets including one saying “great job”. They also posted malicious links in the tweets.

After this, Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda's Twitter account was hacked in February and it featured tweets on crypto donations.

The account name was changed to "ICG OWNS INDIA". Certain tweets inviting crypto donations for Ukraine aid also appeared on the profile.

"Stand with the people of Ukraine now accepting cryptocurrency donations Bitcoin and Ethereum," a tweet on JP Nadda's Twitter account read. Another tweet written in Hindi claimed that the account was not hacked and all donations would go to the Ukrainian government.

Notably, in December last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Twitter account was also briefly compromised.

As per the screenshots shared by Twitter users, the tweet put on PM Modi's account claimed that India had officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender, adding that the government bought bitcoins which would be distributed to the people.
