New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Sunday invited criticism on Twitter after he posted a cropped video in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen not paying attention to outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind. The micro-blogging platform was quick enough to raise a red flag on the post for being misleading. "Stay informed. The media is presented out of context," Twitter marked below Sanjay Singh's tweet. The AAP leader had shared a 'cropped' video with a caption reading, "Such an insult, very sorry Sir. These people are like this, your term is over, now they will not even look at you.
In response to the video, users tweeted the full video that shows PM Modi greeting the outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind.
One of the users condemned the act by Sanjay Singh Ankur Singh saying, "Shame on @SanjayAzadSln for sharing cropped video to insult outgoing President. PM had greeted Ram Nath Kovind ji. AAP edited that part and starts video after he crossed Modiji."
"Shame on you.... ticket blacker," said Shrawan Koul, another netizen.
The video has been captured during the ceremony at Parliament's Central Hall to bid farewell to the outgoing President Kovind.
Meanwhile, BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya attacked the Aam Aadmi Pary for its action and called Singh as a 'fake news peddler'. Tweeting the longer version of the video that shows PM Modi welcoming Kovind with folded hands before all other leaders, Malviya said, "Fake news peddler Sanjay Singh at it again. Whose (from Kejriwal to Sisodia) lies are caught every day, and habit of tolerating humiliation, how do you know the way people are respected?"
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also hit out at the AAP leader questioning the intention behind the post.
"Sanjay Singh tweeted today in which he said that the outgoing president was insulted. There could not be anything more unfortunate than this. He posted an edited clip and levels allegations against the Prime Minister at such an event on which there should not be any politics. The edited clip was shared. The Prime Minister had greeted President Kovind which could be seen in the full video. There are pictures in the public domain showing PM Modi greeting the President. Still, such an allegation was levelled. What was the intention?" asked Poonawalla while addressing a press conference, according to the news agency ANI.
"Aam Aadmi Party has been exposed. They have come down to insulting the Prime Minister. They have hijacked Delhi," he added.
Outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind, who had addressed the nation on the eve of demitting office, mentioned PM Modi visiting his UP village, that clearly depicted the mutual respect between the two top leaders of the country.
The 76-year-old leader completed his five-year tenure on June 24. Kovind becomes the second person belonging to the Dalit community and the first person from Uttar Pradesh to have served as the President of India.
He was preceded by Pranab Mukherjee and will be succeeded by Droupadi Murmu, who is set to take oath as India’s first tribal President on Monday.
