After actor Sheezan Mohammed Khan has been sent to 4 day judicial custody in Tunisha Sharma's suicide case, Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan on Sunday linked the case to love jihad and said that police is investigating the matter, news agency ANI reported.

Speaking with reporters, Mahajan stated: "It is a matter of 'love jihad' and police are investigating the case. We are seeing that such cases are increasing day by day and we are mulling to bring a strict law against it."

Earlier today, BJP MLA Ram Kadam put a ‘love-jihad’ angle to the death of television actor Tunisha Sharma and said if that is the reason for her suicide, police will probe the matter and take action against the organisations behind it.

The BJP MLA said all angles, including love-jihad, will be thoroughly probed and the bereaved family will get 100 per cent justice.

It is to be noted that Tunisha Sharma died by suicide on the sets of a TV show in Vasai in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Saturday.

Her co-star Sheezan Mohammed Khan, in the TV show 'Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul', was arrested after her mother registered a case of abetment to suicide.

According to the FIR, the two were in a relationship and broke up 15 days back, which might have pushed the actor to take such a step.

“Tunisha's mother filed a complaint, accused Sheezan was arrested and was produced in court where he was sent to 4-day judicial custody. Post-mortem report clearly specifies the cause of death of Tunisha as hanging,” Chandrakant Jadhav, ACP, Mumbai police told ANI.

“As of now, the investigation is underway. Accused Sheezan's & deceased's phones have been seized. There's no angle of any other affair, blackmailing or 'Love Jihad' as of now,” he added.

It is to be noted that 'Love jihad' is a term used to describe the relationship between a Muslim man and a Hindu woman with a motive for conversion.

Tunisha Sharma's last rites will be performed on December 27 in Mira road area.
