If you are planning to travel during the Independence Day weekend, then reach the airport before time to avoid any hassle as the major airports in the country including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chennai have issued travel advisories to passengers, both domestic and internationals.


The major metropolitan airports have issued advisories asking people to arrive early at airports to allow sufficient time for check-in and security process due to high security measures. Travellers have been requested to co-operate with security personnel to ensure smooth journey.

Urging passengers to reach airport early, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport tweeted on August 9 saying, "Due to the onset of the surge in travel in the coming weeks, #MumbaiAirport is predicted to be busy. We request all our passengers to allocate additional time to reach the airport for a smooth journey."






Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport also issued a similar travel advisory on August 4 on Twitter that read, "Passengers are requested to arrive early to allow sufficient time for check-in & security process due to high security measures during Independence day weekend. You may monitor queue wait times here: http://tinyurl.com/4bukjh2x. Appreciate your patience and cooperation."






Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport also issued advisory on August 8.






Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport too also noted I-Day weekend rush and requested people to reach early at airports.






Chennai's Madras International Meenambakkam Airport requested passengers to arrive early at airport to confirm smooth transit. It wrote:


Moreover, private airlines are also urging passengers to reach airport ahead of time for smooth security check-in, citing security reasons amid Independence Day weekend.






The private airline Vistara also apprised passengers on 10 August to arrive at the airport early during the long weekend.  






Even as other airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India and Akasa did not post any travel adisvory ahead of Independence Day weekend, it is expected that they will do it soon. Airports in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities are also expected to release such travel advisories for passengers soon.


This is part of the regular drill as all major airports remain on high alerts during Independence Day and Republic Day. Also, rush during these days are high, so the security is enhanced at all major airports as per government norms and passengers are advised to reach airports ahead of their schedule.
