New Delhi: Two terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) top commander Salim Parray, were killed in two encounters with security forces in Harwan area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday. 


The second terrorist has been identified as Hafiz alias Hamza of Pakistan. IGP Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar said Hamza was involved in the killing of two policemen in Bandipora.



Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the encounter site.


"Today afternoon we got input of the presence of top LeT commander Salim Parray and a foreign terrorist in Shalimar, Srinagar. Parray was neutralised in the encounter but the foreign terrorist ran away. We followed him and he was neutralised in another encounter," ANI quoted IGP Vijay Kumar as saying.


"The second terrorist neutralised in the Srinagar encounter was identified as Hafiz alias Hamza of Pakistan. He was involved in the killing of two policemen in Bandipora and after this terror incident, he shifted to the Harwan area of Srinagar," Vijay Kumar further said, giving details of the operation.


On December 31, three Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were killed by security forces in Srinagar. On December 30, six militants, including two Pakistani nationals, were killed in two encounters in south Kashmir.


Last week, Vijay Kumar had said 171 militants were killed, including 19 Pakistanis, in 2021. "Eighty-two terrorists or terror associates were arrested, 597 over-ground workers (OGWs) were also arrested. About 127 rifles and 167 pistols were recovered," the IGP had said.
