The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday hit back at Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury over his remark against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on his visit to Spain. Earlier in the day, the Congress MP alleged that the hotel in which she stayed in Spain costed Rs 3 lakh a day, adding that she went there to have "fun". Responding to the remarks, West Bengal minister Shashi Panja questioned whether Chowdhury wanted to hit out at the I.N.D.I.A. bloc of the Opposition.

"The statements which he (Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury) is making against Mamata Banerjee and TMC, I don't know if he really wants to hit out at the INDIA alliance," Panja told PTI.

The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party have been targeting the Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee over her 12-day visit to Spain and the United Arab Emirates. As he returned on Saturday, Banerjee said she has come back with "serious offers for investments and partnerships.”

But Bengal's opposition parties are criticising Banerjee for her visit.

On Wednesday, Chowdhury said, "The Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) stayed at a hotel in Spain that costs Rs 3 lakh a day. On the pretext of inviting investments, she went on a tour and has returned after having fun."

Earlier on Monday, he had hit out at Banerjee saying she went to a trip at a time when dengue cases were on a rise in the state, adding she can go to Spain but is incapable of understanding people's pain. He held the state government responsible for the rampant spread of dengue cases in Bengal.

The Congress MP had earlier questioned how Mamata was able to afford the hotel in Madrid costing Rs 3 lakh per day. "We have heard that the Chief Minister does not take her salary. She sustains herself from the sale of her books and from her paintings. How could you afford to stay at a hotel in Madrid that costs Rs 3 lakhs per day?" the Congress leader asked.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has also attacked Banerjee over her trip accusing the Trinamool Congress of "hobnobbing with corruption" for questioning Modi's abroad travel.
