The Indian Railway suspended a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) on Thursday after he abused and assaulted a passenger onboard the Barauni-Lucknow Express for not having a ticket. A video of the TTE slapping a passenger went viral on social media. After the video surfaced, he was suspended, and an inquiry was initiated into the matter.
In the purported video, the accused TTE can be seen repeatedly slapping the passenger onboard the Barauni-Lucknow Express (15203). In the video, the passenger can also be seen asking the accused TTE the reason behind the assault.
"A video surfaces on social media of TTE on Barauni-Lucknow express slapping a passenger. The concerned TTE has been suspended by the competent authority and an inquiry has been initiated against the concerned," Indian Railway said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
In March last year, a railway ticket examiner was arrested for misbehaving with a female passenger at KR Puram Railway Station, Bengaluru.
A South-West railway official had said, "A video showed a TTE Santosh Kumar of Krishnarajapuram station misbehaving with a lady by allegedly pulling her out of the train on March 14. It is also alleged that he was inebriated. Probe on, TTE suspended," as quoted by ANI.
