Imphal: At least three students of Tamphasana Girls (TG) Higher Secondary School reportedly fainted and several others sustained minor injuries after police resorted to intensive action during a student protest over Introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur.

The inner line permit system is an official travel document issued by the Government of India to grant inward travel of India citizen into a protected area for a limited period. It is obligatory for Indians residing outside those states to obtain permission prior to entering the protected areas.

On Friday large number of students from TGS Higher secondary school started marching from the school campus to the Raj Bhawan, Keishampat, Waheganbam Leikei, Ima market and to the school back. The students also demanded lifting of the “wanted” tag placed for the former ILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan.

The students were however stopped by a strong team of Manipur police at Nityapat Chuthek by using barricades.

As students confronted the police team, the cops resorted to firing smoke bombs.

Reporters observed that police officers were pushing female students in the presence of lady police officers.

The girls who fainted have been admitted to RIMS hospital for first aid and treatment.

Meanwhile, 2 people are on a hunger strike since 7 am, Juy17. Saturday is the sixth day of hunger strike.
