New Delhi: In an incident putting humanity to shame, a  temple priest was set on fire by five people over a land dispute in Rajasthan''s Karauli district, after which he succumbed to the injuries.  The 50-year-old was set ablaze using petrol by six people after he resisted an attempt by them to encroach upon the land that belonged to the temple authorities, police said on Friday.

After the incident came to light one of the accused has been arrested in the case.

"Only one accused has been arrested for burning the priest. We demand the accused's entire family involved in this case should be arrested and police officials should be suspended for inaction. There's anger in the entire Brahmin community," said Ramakant Sharma, priest's relative, in a report by ANI.

According to Mridul Kachhwa, SP of Karauli, the main accused Kailash Meena has been arrested. He also said that several teams Six teams have been formed under the supervision of additional SP Prakash Chand to investigate the case.

"Efforts are on to nab the other accused," said Kachhwa.

According to the report by ANI, the priest had filed an FIR on Thursday at Satpora police station alleging that Meena was trying to grab the land in which his family has been farming. He stated that Meena built a tent on the piece of land which belonged to temple authorities. Huge protests have erupted in the area, following the incident

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has condemned the incident and said that stringent action will be taken against the perpetrators.

Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has hit back at the state government and said that no amount of grief is enough for this incident. She also said that the state government should wake up from its slumber and punish the culprits.
