New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh MLA Swamy Prasad Maurya, who left the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on June 22, has now called meeting of his supporters comprising party’s former leaders and detractors on July 1.

On the other hand, BSP supremo Mayawati has lashed out at Maurya calling him a ‘traitor’. “He is a traitor. His exit will not harm the party” said Mayawati. She also added that the “Maurya community is not with the MLA”.

Maurya seems to be exploring his political options as well keeping in mind the forthcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, Maurya spoke to BJP general secretary Om Mathur, who looks after the party’s affairs in Uttar Pradesh, asking for a meeting.

After quitting Bahujan Samaj Party, it was being presumed that Maurya would be joining the Samajwadi Party and will be inducted into Akhilesh Yadav’s Cabinet by the end of June.
