PATNA: Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi on Wednesday demanded the cancellation of the provisional bail granted to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav by the Jharkhand High Court for "violating the bail's terms and conditions".

Modi said Lalu, who is serving jail term in four fodder scam cases, was given bail only for treatment and on the condition that he will keep himself away from political activities.

"Lalu is continuously violating bail terms by indulging in political activities. He first talked to senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot and after that three TDP MPs met him and held political discussions. On this basis, the CBI should immediately cancel his bail," Modi said.

According to Modi, TDP MPs met the RJD chief to seek support of his party on the non-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government.

Later, these MPs also handed over a memorandum in the name of Leader of the Opposition and Lalu's son Tejashwi Yadav, Modi said.

The 70-year-old former Bihar Chief Minister on Sunday returned to Patna after spending 21 days at a Mumbai hospital, where he underwent a surgery and got treated for a dozen-odd ailments.

Lalu was on May 11 granted a six-week provisional bail by Jharkhand High Court for undergoing medical treatment at specialised institutes. The court had later extended his provisional bail for another six weeks on medical grounds.

He has been convicted in four fodder scam cases since 2013, the latest being the Dumka treasury case in which a special CBI court sentenced him to 14 years in jail.
