After the questioning that extended for hours, it turns out that Bhansali could not work with the late actor due to date issues. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was planning to cast Rajput in four films, but due to unavailability of his dates the movies were offered to other actors.

As per sources, Bhansali wanted to sign Sushant for his films Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao-Mastani and Padmaavat, but could not because of his prior commitments.
All of these films turned out to be major Box Office successes.
Bhansali had almost signed him for his film but had to drop Rajput because of date issues, according to an officer. Similarly, Rajput had also been considered for Bhansali's but for various reasons, it failed to materialize, Bhansali told police.
Sources said that Rajput had auditioned for Bhansali’s TV show Saraswatichandra but could not bag the role. Though Bhansali admitted that he was quite impressed by his skills then.
Bhansali also reportedly denied nepotism claims about Bollywood and said that actors like Akshay Kumar and Madhuri Dixit would not be stars if nepotism actually existed in the industry.
