Serum Institute Executive Director Death: Serum Institute Executive Director Dr. Suresh Jadhav has passed away at the age of 72 due to a long illness, reported ABP Majha. Dr. Jadhav was instrumental in the development of the Covishield vaccine on Covid-19 from the Serum Institute of India (SII).

It was reported that he was sick for the last few days. Dr. Jadhav passed away at Sahyadri Hospital in Pune on Wednesday. He made significant contributions to the research on the Covid-19 vaccine.

He came to Pune from a small village in Vidarbha. He holds a degree from Nagpur University.

Dr. Jadhav also made his mark on the world stage. He held several patents around the world. Dr. Jadhav's experience in vaccine research stretches forty years. The pharmaceutical sector has expressed grief that Jadhav's departure has caused great damage to the Indian medical sector.

"He built the technical capabilities of  @SerumInstIndia from the ground up. His humility & down-to-earth style always impressed me. His passing away is a sad day for all in the vaccine industry, especially the DCVMN," wrote Prashant Yadav, a Harvard Scholar.

Dr. Jadhav in an interview with TOI in January 2021 had said, "Making a vaccine in less than a year is no mean feat. Covid spurred global cooperation for vaccine research. The vaccine has been developed at lightning speed. We must remember that the governments and authorities are permitting the use of the vaccines in emergencies."
