Surat: A Sessions court at Surat on Friday convicted self-styled godman Asaram's son Narayan Sai for raping a woman. The court shall pronounce the quantum of sentence on April 30.

The 40-year-old Narayan Sai was arrested from Pipli near Haryana’s Kurukshetra in December 2013 after two sisters from Surat filed rape complaints against him and his father Asaram in October that year. Sai, arrested in a rape case in 2013, is lodged in the Surat jail.

One of the women had accused Sai of repeated sexual assaults when they were living at Asaram’s ashram between 2002 and 2005 in Surat. The victim’s elder sister had also made a similar allegation against Asaram while she was living at an ashram on the outskirts of Ahmedabad between 1997 and 2006.

The two sisters had lodged separate complaints against Sai and Asaram for allegedly raping them.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had earlier filed a 'prosecution complaint' against jailed godman Asaram's son Narayan Sai under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in a bribery case.

Through the complaint, filed with the special PMLA court in Ahemedabad, the ED has sought prosecution of Sai and others for money laundering, the agency said in a release.

The court has produced 53 witnesses against Narayan Sai in the case, prompting him to go underground when the case was registered. He was later arrested in 2013 on the Delhi-Haryana border, two months after the FIR was registered.
Sai has also been accused of trying to bribe jail officials of Rs 13 crore, but has managed to get a bail in the bribery case.

Narayan Sai, also known as Narayan Prem Sai is the son of Asaram Bapu. He is currently imprrisoned in Lajpor jail on charges of rape of a lady in Surat and is undergoing a trail.
