Lucknow: BJP today attacked UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and Congress VP Rahul Gandhi for their "silence" on the murder of a woman, who had accused a Samajwadi Party MLA of rape. BJP claimed that the UP government led by Yadav was working to save the accused lawmaker.


UP MLA Arun Verma, who was accused of gang-raping a woman four years ago, along with eight other people, has now been charged of murder after the lady who accused the MLA of rape has been found dead.

The dead body of the girl was found on Sunday night behind Panchayat Bhawan in Sultanpur. The case has been lodged against Verma under section 302 of IPC.

Sultanpur is set to go to polls on February 27. The noose has been tightened around Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav with polls around the corner. The CM is continuously being questioned about increasing crime in the state.

No arrests have been made so far in the case.

The cops have initiated a probe and it will be now be crucial to see if any action is taken against the MLA with only few days left to polls. Also, if Akhilesh Yadav would sack the MLA and set a precedent.
