Najeeb Ahmed Missing Case: On Thursday, Student organizations demanded justice for missing student Najeeb Ahmed by carrying out a protest march in Jawaharlal Nehru University. Najeeb had reportedly gone missing from campus in 2016 and since then, there has been no news of him. Despite carrying out a detailed investigation, the police were unable to obtain any information on his whereabouts.
A number of organizations were a part of Protest March:
Students Islamic Organization, BAPSA, Fraternity Movement, MSF, and Congress affiliated NSUI participated in this protest march which started from Ganga Dhaba and ended at Sabarmati Dhaba in the campus itself.
Since when has Najeeb been missing?
According to friends and family members, Najeeb Ahmed went missing on October 15, 2016 after an altercation with some ABVP students at the Mahi-Mandavi hostel. Initially, the case was investigated by the Delhi Police, and then it was handed over to the CBI, which then filed the closure report.
Calls for investigation rose in March:
Calls for investigation into Najeeb's disappearance began to be raised in March this year. The sound of slogans like 'Where is Najeeb?' reverberated all over the university. The students marched on the campus and raised slogans demanding that Najeeb be brought back.
Investigation yielded no results:
About a month after Najeeb's disappearance, his mother Fatima Nafees filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking an investigation into the whereabouts of her son.
However, even after a lot of effort, the police were unable to get any clues on his whereabouts.
The court had then ordered handing over the case to the CBI, who then investigated the case and filed a closure report after being unable to find any clues on his whereabouts. In the end, no details on Najeeb's whereabouts were ever found.
