Stray Cat’s Tail Chopped Off In Mumbai, FIR Filed Under Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Act

“Someone had brutally chopped the tail of this cat, who comes to me for food. I got her treated at a hospital. The FIR has been lodged at Malad West Police Station,” ANI quoted the rescuer as saying.

Mumbai: An FIR has been filed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at the Malad West Police Station in Mumbai after a stray cat’s tail was chopped off on Sunday.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of the rescuer, who got the cat treated.

“Someone had brutally chopped the tail of this cat, who comes to me for food. I got her treated at a hospital. The FIR has been lodged at Malad West Police Station,” ANI quoted the rescuer as saying.

The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying has been proposing several amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960, which would make it stricter and act as a deterrent to offenders.

The revised Act also proposes to constitute a State Animal Welfare Board within three months of the amendment.

The Animal Husbandry Department had last month suggested adding to the 1960 Act a stringent new section, which addresses the killing of animals and gruesome cruelty towards them.

The Animal Husbandry Department has also proposed amending the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act to hike the penalty for first-time offenders.
