Some people are roaming in South Delhi area of the national capital Delhi with bags full of coins and are asking for Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes (which are no longer legal tender by 12 am, November 9).
In exchange, they are asking for 5 percent of the money exchanged. For example, if you want Rs 1000 to get exchanged, they will give you coins in return and will take 5 percent of the deal (Rs 50).
A sting operation by ABP LIVE's Anurag Kumar exposed their entire modus operandi.
"I will give you coins in return. I'm not talking about notes, I have coins and will give you the same", a person who told his name as RP Singh, said.
On being asked from where he got coins, he declined to answer and termed it his "employment".
When asked, is he from any temple, he said-"Yes, from one located in the Sadar Bazaar."
"I have coins of Rs 1 and Rs 2. At present, coins of Rs 5 and 10 are a bit less," the person said.
On being asked that how much amount he can exchange, the man simply smiled and said-"You can exchange as much money as you have! How much amount you want? But the time is limited, only for two days."
The entire auto full of coins is standing outside, the man proudly said.
"How I will get it done (convert the now illegal note into legal) or keep it just ideal, that is not your concern", RP Singh said when he was asked how he will make use of Rs 500 and 1000 notes.
The person, despite repeated questions, not revealed how he will use the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 which he will take in exchange of coins.
He also gave his mobile number for further contact.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a sudden address to the nation on Tuesday night, announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes were being withdrawn. He said that such notes will become “mere paper”.
The notes ban move, for which the Government of India was planning from last 10 moths, is taken to check the circulation of black money and corruption.
