Ranchi: Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Monody condemned the attack against north-Indians in Gujarat that has led to exodus of thousands of migrants working in the state. In a conclave co-organised by ABP News, Goyal said police took swift and stern action in nabbing the accused in the rape of a toddler.  Goyal appealed for calm and has urged incensed locals to not take law into their hands.

The minister said Rahul Gandhi is deluding and misleading the people of India on Rafale deal, "a matter about which the Congress President himself doesn't have any knowledge."

Patting his back, Goyal said that train delays have been reduced by up to 30% since he has taken over as railway minister. "Passenger safety our top priority,"he added.

Queries on the tumbling rupee, hike in fuel prices, Goyal tried to deflect the blame on the international market but said the government has kept the inflation rate contained at 4.5% in the last four years.

In a similar event last week, Goyal said it is the best period that India has seen when the currency has only depreciated by seven per cent in a five-year period.

"I think today we have an economy that is able to withstand the current international pressure. We have a situation like 2013, the dollar is getting strengthened because of the quantitative easing in the US. They are sucking out USD 10 billion and USD 300 or USD 350 billion every year. Trade rates have gone crazy. Oil prices are shooting up consistently. Despite that have you realised in 2013 the rupee to a dollar was at 68.86, he said at the Hindustan Times International Leadership Summit.
