Attari-Wagah border: The beating retreat ceremony, an elaborate ritual of lowering the national flags of India and Pakistan just before the sunset, took place at the Attari-Wagah border on Sunday as India celebrates its 75th Independence Day.
The enthusiasm of the Indian soldiers was worth watching during the ceremony as the atmosphere here echoed with slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Hindustan Zindabad’.
The people present in the audience also joined to the tune of the Indian soldiers and raised patriotic slogans.

As the sun sets, the iron gates at the border are opened and the two flags are lowered simultaneously.
The flags are folded and the ceremony ends with a retreat that involves a handshake between the soldiers from either side followed by the closing of the gates again.
Earlier, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel presented sweets to the Pakistan Rangers at the Attari-Wagah border on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day.
The security personnel from both sides, according to officials, also shook hands with each other.
The Indian troops had earlier on Saturday greeted their Pakistani counterparts on their nation's Independence Day and exchanged sweets along the Line of Control and the International Border in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
