New Delhi: Congress party’s Lok Sabha whip Manickam Tagore on Tuesday has launched a scathing attack on senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal for his remarks against the leadership.

There has been a rift within the party after the defeat of the Congress in the assembly elections held in five states. Even after the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, internal tension continues in the Congress.

"Why the RSS and BJP wants Nehru-Gandhi's out of the leadership? Because without Gandhi's leadership Congress will become Janata party. It's easy to kill Congress then it's easy to destroy the idea of India (sic)," said on Twitter.

"Kapil Sibal knows it but why he is speaking the language of RSS/BJP," he claimed.

Kapil Sibal has said that Gandhis should step aside and give some other leader a chance to lead the party. "Leadership is in cuckoo land... I want a 'Sab ki Congress'. Some want a 'Ghar ki Congress'," Sibal told the Indian Express in an interview.

He added, “Some people have expressed their views that there can be no Congress without A, B or C. Obviously, they believe that ‘Sab ki Congress’ cannot survive without ‘Ghar ki Congress’. That’s the challenge.”

"Rahul Gandhi went to Punjab and made the announcement that Charanjit Singh Channi will be the Chief Minister. In what capacity did he do that? He is not the president of the party, but he takes all the decisions. He is already the de facto president. So why are they asking him that he should take back the reins of power?" he asked.

Sibal's statement came after the defeat of the Congress in the assembly elections in five states and the Congress Working Committee showing its faith in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. G-23 leaders wrote to Sonia Gandhi in 2020 demanding major changes in the party.
