New Delhi: With Punjab Assembly Elections high on the agenda for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday met actor Sonu Sood in the national capital today. The meeting comes amid speculations that the Bollywood actor may contest the upcoming Punjab polls.
AAP convenor Kejriwal along with Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, MLA from Rajinder Nagar constituency Raghav Chadha and others met the actor/philanthropist.
Soon after the meeting, AAP held a press conference where the actor was also present. During the press conference, Kejriwal announced that Sonu Sood has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Delhi government's program for kids called - 'Desh Ke Mentor'.
"Sonu Sood ji has agreed to become the brand ambassador of our 'Desh Ke Mentors' program which will be launched soon," Kejriwal said during the press conference.
"Today, I have been given an opportunity to mentor lakhs of students. There is no greater service than guiding students. I am sure together we can & we will," Sonu Sood told reporters.
Apart from his acting popularity, Sood is also known for the philanthropical work of helping thousands of people during the nationwide Covid lockdown last year and even during the peak of second wave.
From helping stranded people reach their villages to delivering oxygen cylinders and extending medical help to people in need, Sonu Sood was seen doing it all during the tough times.
Sonu Sood soon became a household name as he emerged as a hope for many people in distress during the pandemic.
After gaining popularity for his extraordinary social work, Sonu Sood was praised from all nooks and corners of the society including the state and Central government.
Recently, Sonu Sood was appointed as the Brand Ambassador for Punjab government's Covid vaccination drive. The actor also met Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh in April this year.
Even the Maharashtra Congress charted out a strategy where it recommended that the party should project actors Sonu Sood, Riteish Deshmukh or model Milind Soman as its mayoral candidate.
