Sonia Gandhi To Pick Next Punjab CM, Says Harish Rawat After Congress Legislative Party Meeting
This was one of the resolutions passed unanimously in a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Chandigarh.
Chandigarh: With Captain Amarinder Singh resigning as the chief minister, the Punjab Congress MLAs on Saturday authorized party president Sonia Gandhi to pick the new CLP leader.

The second resolution praising and thanking Amarinder Singh for his contribution towards Punjab and the Congress was also unanimously passed at the meeting, PTI reported.
“We have sent two resolutions to the party high command which was passed in the Congress Legislative Party today. We are waiting for their decision,” All India Congress Committee (AICC) Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat said emerging from the meeting.
Ajay Maken, the Congress’ observer for Punjab, said there was no discussion on the name of a CLP leader.
Maken further said they expect the party will “continue to get guidance” of Amarinder Singh.
Meanwhile, Singh has opposed Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu’s as the next chief minister.

“Navjot Singh Sidhu is an incompetent man. He is going to be a disaster. I will oppose his name for the next chief ministerial face. He has connection with Pakistan. It will be a threat to national security,” Singh told ANI in an exclusive conversation.
“For the sake of my country, I will oppose his name for the CM of Punjab. It is a matter of national security. Pakistan PM Imran Khan is his friend. Sidhu has a relation with (Pakistan) Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa,” he added.
