New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi held a meeting here on Sunday to discuss the party’s strategy for the second part of the budget session beginning on Monday.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, said the Congress leaders present in the meeting held a discussion on the issues to be raised in the upcoming Parliament session.
"We held a discussion on the issues to be raised in the upcoming Parliament session,” said Kharge, ANI reported.
“We will try to raise the issues of inflation, unemployment, MSP for farmers and medical students returning from Ukraine,” he added.
The second half of the budget session will conclude on April 8.
The first half of the budget session began on January 31 and concluded on February 11.
Besides Kharge, party leaders Jairam Ramesh, Anand Sharma and K. Suresh were among those present in the meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) strategy group held at Gandhi’s official 10, Janpath residence in the national capital.
This meeting also assumes significance as it took place hours before a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) where the grand old party will discuss the poll debacle in the five states, including politically crucial Uttar Pradesh, and the current political situation.
According to reports, the CWC meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The results of the five assembly elections came as a shock to the Congress.
The party also failed to live up to the expectation in Uttar Pradesh.
Despite an aggressive campaign led by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the party was reduced to a single-digit count winning just two seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won in Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
The Congress also had to accept defeat at the hands of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab.
