Sonia Gandhi fell ill on Tuesday, prompting her and Priyanka to return to Delhi after participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Priyanka Gandhi did not join the Yatra when it resumed on Wednesday morning. She is expected to join later in the day.
Congress leader and Sonia's son Rahul Gandhi was present at the Yatra's resumption and was accompanied by other senior Congress leaders, including former Union minister Jairam Ramesh and the party's Uttar Pradesh unit chief, Brijlal Khabri. Local leaders and activists, including district unit chief Rampal Dhama of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), an alliance partner of the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, also joined the yatra.
The Congress had previously announced that RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary would participate in the yatra, but Chaudhary was reportedly abroad and unable to attend.
