New Delhi: Amruta Fadnavis sparked outrage on Twitter after she connected traffic congestion to divorce in Mumbai, claiming that 3 per cent of divorces in Mumbai are caused by traffic congestion because individuals are unable to spend time with their families.
The comment, which she made as a Mumbaikar rather than as the wife of Maharashtra's former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, sparked massive spamming on and off social media, with Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar and Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi commenting that they had never heard such flawed logic before.
Taking a dig at Amruta Fadnavis, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “Best (il)logic of the day award goes to the lady who claims 3% Mumbaikars are divorcing due to traffic on roads. Please take a holiday break rather than having a mind on break. Bengaluru families please avoid reading this, can prove fatal for your marriages.”
Responding to Shiv Sena MP, Amruta then resorted to Twitter, citing a poll that revealed Mumbaikars suffer from psychological and bodily disease as a result of massive traffic jams and delays in traffic flow. “There is also a fall in employee productivity & increase in divorce rates,” she tweeted.
Amruta Fadnavis made the comment on Friday during the launch of the Cancer Free Maharashtra Campaign. The statement went viral when the video was shared on Twitter on Saturday.
She said that as a common citizen of the state she has to face many issues when she steps out that include potholes on roads and traffic. She further added that due to traffic people are not able to give time to their families which result in broken families.
“I'm saying this as a common citizen. Once I go out I see several issues including potholes, traffic. Due to traffic, people are unable to give time to their families & 3% divorces in Mumbai are happening due to it,” she said.
To Her comment, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar responded in a sarcastic manner saying that people associated with BJP keep making comments like these, and now even the people are fed up with such comments.
