New Delhi: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced on Tuesday that it has obtained permission from the Delhi Police to convene a 'Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat' at Delhi's Ramlila Ground on March 14, where a resolution will be passed to intensify the fight against policies of the Modi Government. The umbrella body of farmers' organisations, which had spearheaded the 2020-21 farmers' protest at Delhi borders against the three central agriculture laws, stressed that it would be a peaceful gathering, news agency PTI reported.

In a statement, the SKM said that the Delhi Police has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for hosting the Mahapanchayat at Ramlila Maidan on March 14, 2024. The SKM further asserted that arrangements for parking space and essential amenities, including water, toilets, and ambulance services, will be facilitated with the assistance of the Municipal Administration of Delhi, the SKM claimed in a statement, as per PTI.

SKM Urges Farmers, Workers To Attend Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat

The SKM has issued a fervent appeal to farmers and workers, urging them to participate in the upcoming Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat. The SKM emphasised that preparations for the event are underway at full throttle to make the event politically significant and successful.

It said, "the Mahapanchayat will adopt 'Sankalp Patra' or Letter of Resolution to intensify the fight against the pro-corporate, communal, dictatorial policies of the Modi Government; to fight to save farming, food security, livelihood and the people from corporate loot."

As the country approaches the general elections to the Lok Sabha, the Mahapanchayat is poised to unveil a comprehensive action plan for escalating the ongoing struggle to fulfill the genuine demands of farmers and workers alike, it said, adding farmers from nearby states will join the Mahapanchayat.

The majority of farmers are expected to arrive by trains, while buses and four-wheelers will be adorned with window stickers and organisation flags to facilitate hassle-free transportation to and from Delhi. Once the farmers are dropped off, the vehicles will be parked in designated spots. Additionally, the SKM revealed that the Delhi Police will issue a traffic advisory to ensure smooth traffic flow for both participants and the public during the event, the SKM said.

The announcement comes after previous attempts by farmer organisations to organise a 'Delhi Chalo' protest was hindered by authorities in Haryana, who prevented the entry of protesters from Punjab. Furthermore, the Delhi Police had erected barricades along the city's borders with neighbouring states.

The protesting farmers, who have been stationed at border points of Punjab and Haryana, continue to advocate for their demands, which include a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. The Mahapanchayat will be peaceful with the highest discipline underlining the massive path of struggle with a determination that was proved correct and helped to achieve victory during the historic farmers struggle at Delhi Borders in 2020-21 that had sacrificed the lives of 736 farmers in 13 months period, the SKM said.

Representatives from various trade unions, sectoral federations, and associations will also partake in the rally, further amplifying the collective voice of the workers' movement. The SKM appealed to all mass and class organisations, as well as unions of workers, students, youth, and women, to join the Mahapanchayat in solidarity, as per PTI.

Additionally, the BKU Chaduni group of farmers has been cordially invited to participate in the Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat scheduled for March 14.
